During the December Jackson City Council Meeting, Four-term, Jackson
City Councilman Ernest Brooks II, District Three, was appointed to the
new Budget Committee.
“I would like to thank Mayor Gist for his leadership and for
appointing me to this important committee”, said Brooks.
At the June 7, 2016, City Council Meeting, the City Council
unanimously approved the establishment of a Budget Committee comprised
of three City Council members and two people from the general public,
to be appointed by the Mayor, to study the City’s budget for fiscal
year 2017-2018. Mayor Gist announced that the following persons have
been selected to Councilman Randy Wallace (chair); Councilman Ernest
Brooks II; Councilman Scott Conger; Mr. Dennis Henderson and Mr. Jimmy
Exum. The committee meetings will be open to the general public and
proper notice will be sent from the office of the City Council.
Brooks, an attorney, graduated with Honors from Morehouse College with
a degree in Banking and Finance. The Budget Committee will review and
approve departmental budgets, as well as, study revenue, expenditures
and debt service in preparation for the upcoming fiscal year. The
committee will also make recommendations to the administration in
preparing the operating and capital budgets.
According to the Councilman, “While the City of Jackson, like every
municipal entity, can be better stewards of taxpayer dollars and
budget cuts may be necessary, it is imperative that we explore
additional ways to increase revenues”.
