Madison County Sheriff John Mehr has issued a “Telephone Scam Alert.”.

The MCSO has received several reports this week concerning threatening phone calls, using the name of deceased Deputy James Marshall.

Citizens are being told they have a fine that must be paid for failing to report for jury duty.

The Sheriff is advising not to cooperate in any way, such as sending money, or going to purchase a card from Walmart.

We have dealt with the same type of scam in the past, but this particular scam is circulating again.

Please call and make a report if you receive a call and document any information of numbers called from, fictitious names used, and submit that information to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, 731-423-6000, or Crimestoppers 731-414-TIPS (8477)

Be advised that this is a SCAM and the subject(s) involved are merely trying to obtain money.

The MCSO does not make threatening phone calls, so be alert as the Holiday season approaches for any call that sounds suspicious.
