DAR Holds Annual Founders Day Tea

 

     Jackson-Madison Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution [NSDAR] celebrated NSDAR Founders Day with the annual Founders Day Tea on    Saturday, October 19, in Memorial Hall of First Presbyterian Church.  This is a special commemoration of the 129th anniversary of the founding of NSDAR on October 11, 1890. 

    New members who were welcomed into the chapter by Chapter Membership Chair Jan Bynum and Chickasaw District Director Marjorie Green are Linda Marcom Poole, Linda Farmer, Joy Deming, and Jane Wilson.  New members unable to attend were Celeste Aud, Laura Griffin, Ann Hollenbeck, Katherine Hollenbeck, Susan Jeffries, Doris Radcliffe, Alex Harris Robertson, Amy Stanfill, and Jane Stein.    

     Members were honored for their years of service.  They are Beth Bates (10 years), Virginia Bates (10 years), Jan Bynum (10 years), Rachel Joslin (10 years), Nickie Lewis (10 years), Wendy Williams (10 years), Vickie Collins (20 years), Colleen Coury (20 years), Jo Ann Birmingham (30 years), Connie Lochridge (40 years), and Shirley Jones (50 years).  Each received a certificate of appreciation.  Ms. Jones also received a special pin signifying her 50 years of membership. Unable to attend were Ann Davis (10 years), Stephanie Gordon (10 years), Linda Higgins (10 years), Liz Johnson (10 years), Mary Johnson (10 years), Hannah Marcom (10 years), Mary Jo Middlebrooks (10 years), Melinda Middlebrooks (10 years), Martha Wilson (10 years), and Vicki Lake (40 years).

     The 2019 Outstanding Junior Member, Ashley Faulkner was announced and will be presented with a commemorative pin.  The Outstanding Junior Member will represent Jackson-Madison Chapter at state conference, fall workshops and other events.

     The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation’s children.  Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War.  With more than 185,000 members in approximately 3, 000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations.  DAR is non-partisan and non-political, and welcomes any woman, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineage to a Revolutionary War patriot.

     Jackson-Madison Chapter NSDAR was organized on Flag Day, June 14, 1901, and is one of the oldest and most active chapters in the state of Tennessee.
