Rep. Jimmy Eldridge announces 2017-2018 TN Arts Commission Grants for Area Nonprofits
Area nonprofit organizations have been awarded grants through the Tennessee Arts Commission
State Representative Jimmy Eldridge (R – District 73) has released a list of grant award recipients from the Tennessee Arts Commission for Fiscal Year 2016 (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018) in his district. This is the first of a series of grants that will be made throughout FY2018.
Grants totaling some $63,400 have been awarded to six nonprofit organizations in Madison County. Grant recipients include: The Community Multicultural Art Care Center, the Jackson Arts Council, Jackson Symphony Association, Jackson Theater Guild, The Ned, and West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation, Inc.
“I am very pleased to announce these investments for arts and cultural programming in Tennessee’s communities and schools,” said Representative Eldridge. “These investments in arts and culture offer all of us a better quality of life, provide our children with a more complete education, stimulate economic development and help attract tourists to our state.”
“Tennessee is fortunate to have elected leaders who support how these investments positively impact and help define our state’s arts and cultural assets,” said Anne B. Pope, Executive Director of the Tennessee Arts Commission. “The arts can instill value in a place, both economically, aesthetically and culturally.”
According to Pope, the Commission will award approximately 1000 grants during Fiscal Year 2018, totaling more than $5.5 million dollars. These funds have a direct impact on communities across Tennessee, in both urban and rural areas. Grant categories include Arts Access, Arts Education, Arts Project Support, Partnership Support, Individual Artist Fellowships, Major Cultural Institutions, Cultural Education Partnership and Rural Arts Partnership.
The Commission’s allocations process involves a review by citizen advisory panels made up of Tennesseans with expertise in appropriate arts disciplines and a review by the full 15-member Commission.
Other grant opportunities are offered throughout the year with rolling deadlines for qualifying organizations and individuals. They include grants for Arts Build Communities, Arts Education Teacher Incentives, Student Ticket Subsidy, Technical Assistance, Special Opportunities and Professional Development.
