FHU’s Equip Ministry Camp Aims to Prepare Future Ministers for God’s Service

Henderson, Tennessee – (Feb. 23, 2024) – Aspiring young ministers are invited to take part in the inaugural Equip Ministry Camp, hosted by Freed-Hardeman University College of Biblical Studies. Open to young men ages 13-19, the camp will take place from Tuesday, May 28, through Friday, May 31, 2024.

“Equip Ministry Camp is an opportunity for young men to learn about ministry from those who have not just studied about it but are experienced practitioners of living a life of ministry,” said Dr. Doug Burleson, director of Equip Ministry Camp. “This will be a unique opportunity for students to be immersed in a setting where studying the Word of God and serving others in ministry will be the intensive focus of every hour we spend together.”

The mission of the camp is to provide a learning environment for teenage young men to study the Word of God, prepare and present lessons and enhance their ability to minister in a congregational setting.

“It’s going to be a great week,” said Dr. Justin Rogers, dean of the FHU College of Biblical Studies. “The camp will cover important ministry issues such as preaching, apologetics, counseling and practical ministry, all taught and led by esteemed scholars and ministers throughout our fellowship. We want to engage the best of the current generation to do our best for the next generation.”

In order to keep class sizes small and ensure the best quality of instruction and experience, the camp will be limited to 48 applicants. The four-day experience will include time with mentors, collaborative preparation for ministry and relationship-building activities. Upon approval, the camp fee for each student is $150. The deadline for campers to apply is May 1.

“When I was a teenager, one of the great experiences I had each summer was attending a camp like this,” FHU President David R. Shannon said. “What I learned and the friends I made, who are still in ministry, have greatly impacted my life. It will be an amazing time to equip young men who have a heart for ministry and the Kingdom.”
