D-backs announce 2018 Opening Day roster for Generals


11 players return from 2017;

18 players have previous experience at Double-A



Jackson, Tenn. –The Jackson Generals, under the direction of the Arizona Diamondbacks, announced their 2018 Opening Day roster on Monday. The Generals welcome back 11 players from 2017 to the active roster for their April 5 home opener.


Jackson Generals Roster for Opening Day 2018 (24 active players)


Right-handed Pitchers (7): Michael Dimock, Justin Donatella, Sam Lewis, Yoan Lopez, Mason McCullough, Joel Payamps, Taylor Widener


Left-handed Pitchers (5): Kirby Bellow, Yuhei Nakaushiro, Colin Poche, Gabe Speier, Alex Young


Catchers (2): Matt Jones, Alberto Rosario


Infielders (7): Galli Cribbs, Cody Decker, Rudy Flores, Marty Herum, Kevin Medrano, Juniel Querecuto, Jose Vinicio


Outfielders (3): Ben DeLuzio, Jay Gonzalez, Jamie Westbrook


Disabled List (5): Rubby De La Rosa, Kelly Dugan, Domingo Leyba, Josh Prince, Jose Queliz


In total, 18 of the 24 players on the Generals’ active roster have seen regular-season action at the Double-A level in previous seasons. Three of the 2018 Opening Day Generals will bring Major League Baseball experience to the clubhouse. Three players who spent time with the Generals in 2017 have already made their MLB debuts following their tenures in West Tennessee.


As noted in a previous release, the 2018 field staff will be led by Shelley Duncan, Jackson’s new manager. Duncan spent last season skippering the Visalia Rawhide of the High-A California League. Other newcomers to the field staff include hitting coach Vince Harrison and coach Javier Colina. Doug Drabek, the Generals’ 2017 pitching coach, will return to the club in 2018.


Generals fans can get to know all of the new players, as well as the coaching staff, on Wednesday, April 4 at Englewood Baptist Church from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. “Meet the Team” Night is free to the public, and fans may take photos and request autographs.
