The Mid-West Tennessee Genealogical Society

The Mid-West Tennessee Genealogical Society will meet Tuesday, May 10, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Program Center of the Jackson-Madison County Library at 433 East Lafayette Street in Jackson.

Joel Jackson, Chairman of Bemis Historical Society, will present a slideshow of the Bemis Mill Village Museum originally built by Bemis Bro. Bag Company as the Bemis Auditorium in 1922.  The auditorium was the cultural center of the Bemis community. It was a movie house, a stage for skits and community theater productions, and the setting for high school graduation ceremonies.  Citizens of the Bemis community celebrated milestones together in the auditorium.  Joel will show photos from the attic, balcony, main floor, basement, and tunnel. The centennial anniversary will be celebrated May 21 at Bemis Heritage Day.

Anyone interested in genealogy is invited to attend the meeting.  Annual membership dues are $20 and include quarterly issues of “Family Findings” with West Tennessee genealogical stories and research tips.  Questions should be sent to mwtgs1968@gmail.com.
