Lane NAACP and JMC NAACP Youth Council Hosting MLK Program

The Lane College Chapter of the NAACP and the Jackson Madison County (JMC) NAACP
Youth Council will host the annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Memorial
Breakfast and Program on Monday, January 15, 2018, 8:30 A.M, at the T.R. White Sportsplex
located at 304 N. Hays Ave. - Jackson, TN 38301.
The program theme is “Remembering King: Reviving the Campaign Against Poverty.”
Acknowledging that April 4th of this year marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of
King, the program will highlight King’s Poor People’s Campaign which was the focus of King’s
work at the time of his death.
This event is free of charge and open to the public, but all persons attending are urged to bring
canned goods; so, that they can be donated to the local food bank of the Regional Interfaith
Association (RIFA).
Following the program, there will be a commemorative march from the T.R. White Sportsplex to
Mt. Zion Baptist Church located at 201 W. Chester St. where further observance of the MLK
national holiday will commence.
The letters, NAACP, stand for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
The organization’s mission is to ensure the equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate
race-based discrimination.
