LITTLE LIBRARY TO BE DEDICATED AT LIBERTY GARDEN PARK

LITTLE LIBRARY TO BE DEDICATED AT LIBERTY GARDEN PARK

(Jackson, TN-) On Thursday, May 11, 2017, The Jackson-Madison County Public Library

in partnership with the City of Jackson Keep Jackson Beautiful Commission will open its

smallest branch. The community is invited to the Dedication of The Little Free Library in

the Children’s Garden at Liberty Garden Park, Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.,

24 Channing Way. Story Hour will follow the Dedication.

Tammy Buchanan, Chairperson for Liberty Garden Park, states, “A Little Free Library is

a terrific way to Build Community, Inspire Readers and Spark Creativity. There are more

than 50,000 world-wide Little Free Libraries. The small library house is designed to

encourage free book exchange and reading. The Children’s Garden at Liberty Garden

Park is a wonderful site for children to open the door on a whimsical, bird-house style

cottage and discover a world of adventure in the pages of a book.”

Dinah Harris, Director for the Jackson-Madison County Library System, states, “The

collaboration with Keep Jackson Beautiful” to place the smallest library branch in the

Children’s Garden at Liberty Garden Park is a terrific way to engage new readers at a

very early age. The location of the Little Library within Liberty Garden Park encourages

an environment of wonder, discovery, and experiential learning which helps with word

recognition and reading competency. This is another way to make reading fun!”

Jennifer Kilburn, the Jackson-Madison County Children’s Librarian is enthusiastic about

the Little Library, “The Summer Reading Program theme is Build a Better World. Liberty

Garden Park is one block from the North branch of the Jackson-Madison County Library.

Having story hour in the park promotes outdoor learning through reading and helps the

children discover their influence within and understanding of community.”

The community is invited to the dedication of the Little Library at Liberty Garden Park
