Fayette, Shelby County students pictured - UT Martin

MARTIN, TENN., March 8, 2024 – RECEIVES TORCH AWARD – The city of Martin’s “A Reflection of Martin Black History” was held Thursday, Feb. 29, at the Martin Event Center inside the Martin Public Library. Speakers presented information about the city’s Black history and the role of African Americans in UT Martin history. Among the awards presented was the Torch Award that recognizes outstanding work with diversity and inclusion among students. Tyler Swearengen receives the Torch Award from Tierna Miller of the UT Martin Black Student Association. Tyler is a senior health and human performance student from Oakland, and Tierna is a junior criminal justice major from Memphis.
