LOCAL STUDENTS CAN ATTEND VIDEO GAME CAMP JULY 15-19

MARTIN, Tenn. – Jackson-area students ages 8-14 can enroll in “Make Your First Video Game

Camp” this summer, held from 9 a.m.-noon (ages 8-10) or 1-4 p.m. (ages 11-14), July 15-19, at

the University of Tennessee at Martin Jackson Center. Registration is $175 per student, and seats

are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Participants will learn the steps to designing a two-dimensional platform video game including

conceptualization, play experience, level design, graphics, sounds and simple coding. Programs

created by students will be available for testing by friends and family via a password-protected

website at the conclusion of camp. All games will be designed for PC computers, but programs

can be converted to Mac-compatible versions for $15. Students will work in pairs and teams to

create their programs.

No previous experience with game coding is necessary. However, returning students are

encouraged to participate as well and build upon skills learned in previous years.

Online registration is required to reserve a space. Visit

utm.edu/departments/nondegree/jackson.php and choose “game coding” from the list of camps

for children and youth.
