JMCSS students are selected to 2018 Governor’s School for the Arts
JACKSON, Tenn. – Some very talented Jackson-Madison County school students have been accepted into the highly competitive Governor’s School for the Arts.
The pre-professional summer curriculum includes individual and group instruction designed to help each student explore and develop his or her talents in music, ballet, theatre, filmmaking and visual arts. It is open to rising eleventh and twelfth grade students in Tennessee.
Participants will work about four hours a day, six days a week in their area of concentration. The school, located on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfressboro, lasts four weeks and is administered by the State Department of Education. Full and partial scholarships are awarded to cover the $2,850 program free and $350 activity fee.
The following students at Madison Academic Magnet High School were selected and awarded full or partial scholarships:
- Band
- Josiah Nodurft, 10th grade
- Jesse Veltman, 10th grade
- Vocal
- Eleanor Garrard, 11th grade
- Megan Christoferson, 11th grade
- Zane Milan, 11th grade
- Justin Leal, 11the grade
- Claire Myers, 10th grade
To be eligible, students should rank in the top of their high school class in performance/capability or be highly talented in the arts. Students were selected during competitive auditions during January and February.
The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts will be held June 1 – June 24, 2018.
