Madison Academic wins 15th consecutive state
Academic Decathlon championship
JACKSON, Tenn. – Before seniors at Madison Academic Magnet High School even started kindergarten, their predecessors were bringing home championship trophies in the State Academic Decathlon. Over the weekend, the AD team secured their fifteenth consecutive state title.
The team of ten students completed online testing before competing in the Super Quiz in Nashville. This year’s topic is Africa with testing or competitions in math, science, economics, music, art, literature, social science, prepared speech, impromptu speech and interview.
The team began preparing for competition last July, well before school started. They have a scheduled AD class during school hours but spend countless hours after school studying, quizzing, testing and practicing their speeches and interviews.
“Academic Decathlon is a challenging endeavor that not many take on,” said AD Coach Linda Sikes Lane. “These students deserve tremendous credit and praise for their dedication and work ethic in representing our school, school system, city and state.”
As state winners, the team will compete in the national competition in Frisco, Texas, April 17-23. They will be accompanied by their coaches Linda Sikes Lane and Paula Maxon and their principal Chad Guthrie.
