UT MARTIN IN TOP-50 BEST REGIONAL UNIVERSITIES
MARTIN, Tenn. – U.S. News & World Report released its 2018 college rankings Sept. 12, and
the University of Tennessee at Martin appears on several lists.
UT Martin is tied for 46 th -place among the best regional universities in the South, moving up
from 47 in the 2017 listing. This is the second consecutive year where UT Martin appears as the
top-ranked public institution from Tennessee, and the university is ranked 17 th among public
regional universities across the South.
UT Martin is also ranked 27 th in the “best college for veterans” category among southern
institutions. Universities considered for this ranking not only participate in federal initiatives to
help veterans and service members pay for college degrees, they also make an effort to provide
support for student-veterans as they transition into college life.
U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on a variety of both quantitative and qualitative
factors, including graduation and retention rates, undergraduate academic reputation, faculty
resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate performance and alumni
giving.
Data for the 2018 rankings was collected during the first half of 2017 from a variety of sources,
including self-reported data from the institution and statistical data from the Council for Aid to
Education and the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics.
