JOHNSON CITY – An investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the arrest of a Virginia man who fired shots at Hamblen County deputies during a pursuit.

On December 6th, at the request of 3rd District Attorney General Dan Armstrong, TBI Agents joined the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office in investigating an incident that occurred along White Oak Grove Road in Morristown. The investigation revealed that Hamblen County deputies received information regarding a stolen truck out of Jefferson County. Upon spotting the vehicle, deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver, Christopher Allen Deel (DOB 3/12/86), produced a handgun and fired shots at the four deputies pursuing him, striking one of their vehicles. Deel was taken into custody by Hamblen County deputies a short time later.

On Thursday evening, TBI Agents obtained warrants charging Christopher Deel with one count of Attempted First Degree Murder and three counts of Felony Reckless Endangerment. He was booked into the Hamblen County Jail where he is being held on a $1.6 million bond.
