Christmas Scam Alerts

Madison County Sheriff John Mehr is asking citizens to be vigilant during this Christmas shopping season.

“Please lock your vehicles, and keep gifts, guns and valuables out of sight to avoid property loss”.

Often thieves will break windows to steal what’s visible.  This is the season to steal.

Auto burglaries have increased and several recent incidents have been resolved and charges have been filed.

Beware of on-going phone scams too.  Recently the MCSO has learned of scammers enticing citizens with Amazon and Wal Mart gift cards.

The use baiting words “you have won something and we just need a little information”.

Their goal is to hack into your personal bank account and to get social security numbers.

Another popular scam is an offer to “fix your slow moving computer for just $50.00, so just give us your card number.

Finally, the Sheriff reminds us to have any packages delivered to your office, or a trusted neighbor or relative, but never to your front door when your home is unoccupied.

If you notice any suspicious activity call the MCSO or 9-1-1 for assistance.

“Let’s be alert and look out for each other,   We want you to enjoy This most Wonderful time of the year”!
