TBI CASE YIELDS CHARGES FOR ATTORNEY ACCUSED OF STEALING FROM CLIENT TRUST FUND

CHATTANOOGA – Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained indictments for a McMinn County attorney accused of taking money from a client trust fund.

At the request of former 10th District Attorney General Steve Bebb, TBI Agents began investigating Larry D. Cantrell on May 13, 2014. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that, while serving as a Trustee for a fund designated for the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church and Cemetery, Cantrell took a large sum of the money, which he has not accounted for to date.

On September 20th, the McMinn County Grand Jury returned indictments, charging the 65-year-old Athens man with one count of Theft over $60,000 and one count of Tampering with Evidence. On Monday, he turned himself in to TBI Agents at the McMinn County Jail, where he was subsequently booked on $10,000 bond.
